Private Full Family Report
Full Family Report
The private Family Report is your opportunity to reflect on and explain what you think would be most beneficial for your children and their futures. It is one of the most significant points in the Family Law process in having your views about your children heard. Judges in Australia do not engage directly with children as part of the process, so the Family Report is also an opportunity for your children to give voice to their wishes.
A Family Report is an independent family assessment, undertaken by a qualified psychologist or social worker with experience and knowledge in child development and family issues.
The first step in obtaining a private Full Family Report is agreement between you and your former partner upon a Family Report writer. Once agreed, a formal request should be made by all parties or their solicitors to the Report writer to confirm availability and engage their services.
To prepare a Family Report, the appointed professional (assessor) considers a number of factors such as the children’s environment, experiences, development and family circumstances, and any other issues or special needs they have. A Family Report assessor’s role is to understand and assess these circumstances, their effects and implications for the children’s safety and wellbeing in order to make recommendations to assist parenting decision making. A full family report is usually around 25-40 pages in length, and reports are generally provided within 3-4 weeks of completion, when full payment has been received. Read more about the process here.
