Child Impact Report
A Child Impact Report (CIR), also referred to as a short form report, is usually requested early in family law proceedings. It aims to identify what might be needed before Interim Parenting Arrangements or Orders are made. A Child Impact Report is a shorter type of family report prepared by a Family Report Writer to assist the Court in understanding children’s experiences and needs during family law proceedings. It is intended to provide insight to the Court, into how the family context is affecting the children and to identify how their safety and wellbeing can best be supported.
The process usually involves interviews with each parent, and where age appropriate, with the children. These interviews normally take place in one day, athough this depends on the specific circumstances of each family. The Family Report Writer then provides a written report that outlines observations, key issues and recommendations for the Court to consider when making decisions about the children’s care. Turnaround time from interview to the finalised report is usually 2 weeks, once full payment has been received.
